I hope you managed to control the urge to rebel :-)

Sounds like Chinglish is quite infectious so I'm sure you won't have any problems getting it back once you're there!

The cakes were quite impressive as well!

I think I'd rather eat savoury soup too, although I like custard which I suppose is not that much different.

I say you can never go wrong with dill, onions, chives and garlic...lol

That was an interesting article. Being that they were Scandinavian, I assumed they ate a lot of herring.

I love a good soup on a cold day, but I'd rather it be hearty instead of sweet.

My personal favorite I saw in Nanjing was in a bank. A sign at the front was proudly encouraging customers to "question authority" (for "ask the teller" I guess!). Loved the anarchist innuendo!

I'm going to Beijing in Aug. and I hope I can get my Chinglish back!

I agree. Films are a really good way to get an understanding of a different culture.

I guess the ones you saw were the art house kind then? The Russian books I have read have a certain bleakness to them as well. It seems from the article that is not what Russians enjoy these days though!

I've seen one, maybe two Russian films and I have to say, they were pretty depressing. Still, it won't stop me from watching more. The best way to get inside the head of another culture is by watching their cinema.
