Ziboy: the boy from Beijing

Ziboy is a Chinese photoblog by Beijing based photographer Wen Ling.

The blog shows photos of Chinese people in all kinds of everyday situations: at home, out at parties, on the street, laughing, working, talking, eating, smoking… It provides a window on life in China that many visitors do not see.

The story of Ziboy is remarkable - inspired by New York photoblogs Wen Ling decided to set up one of his own in 2001. At the time he was not a professional photographer, in fact displaying his photos on Ziboy.com led to his first professional job.

Zeboy’s blog is more about photos than words, so for those interested in reading more about Wen Ling have a look at this 2003 interview by Sinosplice.

  • Speaking Franglish

This blog is a true cross-cultural adventure, written by two people from different countries who have never met. Sarah lives in Seattle, USA and Valentina is Italian but lives in Marseille, France.

In Franglish, Sarah and Valentina take turns to publish a letter to the other one about what’s going on in their lives. The project started in April 2008 and they will exchange letters via their blog for one year.

On a different topic, many thanks to La of Coastal Commentaries who nominated PocketCultures for an ‘I heart your blog’ award. We are very honoured.

At this point I am supposed to pass on the award to seven more blogs, however we have written about so many great and lovely blogs here on Blogs of the World, it was too difficult to pick favourites. So please take your pick from the other posts. Thanks again La!

  • Random thoughts from Malawi

Random Thoughts from Bennett Kankuzi is written by a computer scientist from Malawi, South East Africa.

In his latest post he writes about how many Malawians support international football teams while complaining about the poor standards of domestic football which, he says, is typical of a trend in Malawi to prefer foreign to local.

However a quick tour of the Malawi links on the blogroll reveals homegrown music, tourism and photos of stunning scenery and wildlife. Looks like there is plenty at home for Malawians to be proud of.
